Let’s face it, Amtrak is not an on-going business, it’s simply a hobby railroad for members of Congress. Every time there is a call for selling off or closing the unprofitable parts of the service, the Congressional crying towels come out.
Now that the GSA scandal has been exposed to the light of day and is being suitably dealt with, we can move on to other abuses in the Federal government.
Friday, we looked at the issues with food stamps in the SNAP program. Today, we’ll look at an area that comes under constant criticism as wasteful and liable to be abused.
While politicians and commentators on the right constantly decry the growth of the culture of entitlement, the Washington legislators continue to spend money that we don’t have. Increased government spending is simply strangling the U.S. economy.
My late father used to say that public officials were feeding at the public trough with high benefits. In those days, the salaries weren’t so high but as public workers unionsgained power that too changed.
Once again, the Senate is fighting a delaying action with the management at the United States Postal Service.
